“Breast” Surgeries for Winter
A common question doctors get asked by prospective clients is, “what is the best time to get surgery”? Well the answer to that may be “summer bodies are made in winter”.[1] Autumn and winter are the recommended seasons to undergo surgery, cosmetic or otherwise because a) it’s easier to get time off to recover as the holidays draw closer, b) bulky winter layers help to both conceal the bandages and protect the skin from UV rays, and c) the cooler weather helps to ease any post-op swelling, making your recovery quicker and much more comfortable.[2]
So what are some common cosmetic surgeries that are recommended by surgeon to be scheduled during the winter? Let’s take a look.
Rhinoplasty
More commonly known as a nose job, rhinoplasty is one type of surgery that’s best done in winter as it requires the patient to wear a cast on their nose five to seven days after surgery.[3] Whether you decide to undergo this procedure for cosmetic or functional reasons, scheduling a nose job during the colder winter months is ideal as holidays such as Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas and New Year’s provide the perfect excuse to take time off to convalesce at home; and if you schedule it before the New Year comes around, you’ll have a new look aesthetically pleasing facial feature to greet the new year![4]
Facelifts and Brow Lifts
Facelifts and brow lifts require the patient to take around two to three weeks to recover, which is why doctors recommend patients to schedule it during winter. Slower and lesser work days allow patients to take the necessary time off to recuperate and as it is recommended to avoid the sun during the recovery period, having this surgery during the darker winter months is most ideal.[5] If you do need to go outside, you can conceal the healing areas, swelling and discoloration with scarves or high collared jackets and coats.[6]
Breast Surgery
Breast surgery includes procedures such as breast augmentation, breast reduction and breast lifts and winter is a great time to schedule these procedures because not only does the cooler weather make your convalescing more comfortable, but it gets your body ready for bikini season when summer comes along.[7] If a patient decides on breast augmentation, they are requires to wear a surgical bra for a few weeks post surgery and this can be difficult and uncomfortable to hide under summer clothing but the bulkier winter clothing provides the perfect opportunity to conceal it.[8] The surgical garments may also be stuffy and hot to wear in the summer but in winter, it’s actually advantageous as it provides an extra layer of warmth.[9]
In conclusion, if you’re considering cosmetic surgery, consider scheduling the procedure during autumn or winter. Depending on the type of procedure you’re looking to get, the combination of cooler temperatures, time off work or school and bulky winter clothing are all great reasons to get your brow lift, facelift nose job or boob job. Also, if you’re considering a Christmas Medical Travel type of vacation why not opt for Europe where you can enjoy the festive, atmospheric Christmas markets and gain access to a slew of top-notch surgical clinics such as Medical Travel Czech in Prague.
