The technique of egg freezing has opened up new possibilities for the woman who wishes to preserve her eggs for future use—whether she has a surplus following a round of IVF or is simply not yet ready to get pregnant, but still desires choice eggs for when she is. In effect, egg freezing can allow the female to outwit her biological clock and buy herself some more time. But oocytes are delicate organisms, and older ‘slow-freeze’ methods do have a tendency to form ice crystals in the cell during the freezing process. This, needless to say, is none too good for the health of the egg.
The contemporary ‘flash-freeze’ technique of vitrification has already circumvented the ice crystal issue, however, and is now considered the gold standard in egg freezing. But, modern as it is, the results of conventional vitrification, in terms of egg quality, remain largely dependant upon the skill and experience of the embryologist. As such, outcomes are variable.
The Gavi® automated vitrification system represents an evolution in vitrification practice that very nearly removes the human element altogether. It carefully safeguards each egg in its own pod, controls delicate procedure variables, and automates the process, generally, to ensure every step is carried out in exactly the same way every time. This enables the system to yield superior results in preserving egg quality and consistently demonstrate a post-thaw blastocyst survival rate of 95% or better—irrespective of the embryologist’s experience level.

Marie graduated university with a Bachelor of Science degree in 2015 and, shortly after, tried her luck abroad. This time away from home proved both challenging and enriching, as she struggled to make her way in an unfamiliar society and to learn a completely new language—all whilst trying to find herself. But absence does make the heart grow fonder, and Marie, coming to appreciate just how wonderful the city of Prague is, ultimately returned.
Being reared in a bilingual family, it was natural that Marie should take an interest in other cultures and languages. A fluent speaker of Czech, Bulgarian, English, and Dutch, she is highly motivated through her work at Medical Travel, as it brings her into daily contact with people from all over the world. It is her desire to ensure that every client is satisfied and to do her part in helping each attain his or her goals. To Marie, being a coordinator means being there for you when you need her the most.

‘After several negative IVF trials in Norway to complete our family (we already have a 3-year-old son through IVF), we decided to go for egg donation. As ED is illegal in Norway, we started investigating our options abroad. After researching different clinics in several European countries, we decided to go with the Gynem Fertility Clinic. And we have absolutely no regrets for choosing Gynem, as we are currently expecting our second son! The clinic has been fantastic all the way through the process. Martina, our coordinator, has been very helpful in adapting the treatment to our time schedule, providing necessary information all along the process and just being genuinely supportive and caring. We can highly recommend Gynem.’
